A 700m long cherry blossom tunnel continues along the moat of the Imperial Palace.
The cherry blossoms stretch out over the water in the moat, blooming magnificently, and the sight of the Imperial Palace are sure to catch your eye.

Meguro River

Cherry blossom type: Somei-Yoshino

A row of cherry trees, mostly Somei-Yoshino cherry trees, stretches for about 4 km along the Meguro River.
Upstream from Nakameguro Station, cherry blossoms arch over the river on both sides of the riverbank, creating a soothing space that suddenly appears in the middle of the city.
At night, the lanterns are lit up, creating a fantastical atmosphere that is different from the daytime.
One of the highlights is the cherry blossom snowstorm that dances on the surface of the river as the cherry blossoms fall.

Ueno Park

Best time to see: Late March

Types of cherry blossoms: Somei-yoshino, Yamazakura, Kanzan, Kanhizakura

The park is home to approximately 1,200 cherry trees, making it one of Tokyo's best cherry blossom viewing spots.
There are several cherry blossom viewing spots within the park, including Sakura Street in the center of the park, where about 800 cherry trees, including Somei Yoshino and Yamazakura, are planted, and Shinobazu Pond, where the contrast between the cherry blossoms and the pond is beautiful.
It is adjacent to Ueno Station, one of Tokyo's main stations, and is crowded with people on weekends during the cherry blossom season.

Types of Cherry Blossoms

Somei-Yoshino

This is the most famous type of cherry blossom in Japan. The flowers are oval and 2-3cm in size, with five single petals. They start out pale pink and turn white as the days go by. Many of the cherry blossoms seen at flower viewing parties are Somei-Yoshino. In Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, the best time to see them is from late March to early April.

Weeping cherry

This is a type of cherry tree whose branches hang down to the ground, and you can enjoy their elegant appearance as if the cherry blossoms are falling from the sky. The color of the flowers varies depending on the variety, and there are many variations such as pink, white, and red. They have a long lifespan, with some trees being over 1,000 years old, and there are many named famous trees all over Japan.

Yaezakura

It is a general term for double-flowered cherry blossoms with many overlapping petals. Somei-Yoshino has five petals, but Yaezakura has more than 20 petals. It is a late-flowering cherry blossom that blooms one to two weeks later than Somei-Yoshino, and is often a deeper pink than Somei-Yoshino.
